UWG Chooses FlowPath

The University of West Georgia (UWG), a public university serving over 16,000 students in Carrollton, Georgia, manages a sprawling campus with hundreds of facilities, assets, and maintenance requests flowing through multiple departments. Like many universities, UWG needed a system that could simplify operations, reduce costs, and give teams greater visibility— without the burden of a complicated, outdated platform.

With FlowPath CMMS, a computerized maintenance management system software, UWG has unified maintenance operations across its campus, improved communication between staff and students, and gained clearer insight into preventive maintenance, vehicle inspections, and asset management, all within one intuitive platform.

Andrew Powell, Construction Project & Program Manager, and Daniel McKinley, Director of Maintenance & Operations, recognized that improving communication and accessibility across UWG’s facilities operations was essential to supporting campus growth and enhancing the student experience. That's where FlowPath comes into play.

The Challenge

College students pose in front of a UWG sign for University of West Georgia.

Before implementing FlowPath, UWG used a legacy maintenance management system that was difficult to navigate and costly to maintain. Teams in the field struggled to access information, and communication gaps between departments led to inefficiencies.

UWG needed a modern, browser-based CMMS that was easy for anyone to use, could consolidate workflows, and came with a support team that listened.

Our old system was difficult to use, especially in the field. You had to use multiple apps to access information. The costs were high, and it just wasn’t meeting our needs.”
— Andrew Powell

UWG’s challenges included:

  • A locally hosted system that required multiple apps to complete simple tasks
  • Limited mobile accessibility, slowing down fieldwork and updates
  • High annual costs without flexibility or responsive support
  • Fragmented communication between staff, students, and maintenance teams

Why FlowPath?

FlowPath stood out immediately for its simplicity, transparency, and customer support—offering a cloud-based platform that was competitively priced and easy to implement.

“FlowPath CMMS software ranked as UWG's top choice because of the high level of customer support included with a competitive price for a cloud-based CMMS,” said Daniel. “FlowPath listens to what the Facilities teams at UWG need and works with us to meet those needs without engineering one-of-a-kind solutions that are quickly obsolete.”

How the University of West Georgia Uses FlowPath

Since implementing FlowPath, UWG has unified maintenance management and improved accountability across the board. From the start, UWG experienced FlowPath’s customer-first approach. The implementation process was straightforward, and the FlowPath team worked side-by-side with UWG to ensure the system was tailored to their workflows.

Work Order Management
Technicians use FlowPath daily on tablets, mobile devices, and computers to record work, upload photos, and close tickets on the spot—keeping data accurate and up to date.

QR Code Integration
UWG leverages existing QR and barcode systems from BMOC to connect assets directly to FlowPath. Scanning a code pulls up service history or creates a work order instantly.

Vehicle Inspections
Each university vehicle has a QR code for monthly mileage and inspection submissions, all done digitally within FlowPath—no paper forms needed.

Student Maintenance Requests
QR codes in residence halls let students submit maintenance requests and communicate directly with staff. And, automatic updates keep students informed from start to finish.

Preventive Maintenance & Inspections
UWG’s preventive maintenance schedules are all managed within FlowPath, including custodial and building inspections. Schedule routine maintenance tasks based on time, usage, or condition-based triggers. Use asset data, equipment manuals, and other information to build a preventive maintenance plan within the FlowPath system using our AI Assistant.

Inventory Management
Using FlowPath’s inventory capabilities, UWG’s Central Warehouse now tracks supplies, parts, and materials more efficiently—ensuring maintenance teams always have what they need. “FlowPath's inventory capabilities have allowed our Central Warehouse to drastically improve efficiency in keeping parts and supplies on hand,” Daniel said.

Data & Dashboards
Maintenance teams view daily workloads and progress through custom dashboards, while leadership exports summarized data for SmartSheets and reporting. “Our teams can open everything in one screen,” Powell said. “They don’t have to click through multiple modules or tabs to find information.”
